AB&I Team Volunteers at Alameda Food Bank
March 31, 2014

A group of AB&I team members volunteered to lend a helping hand bagging fruit at the Alameda Food Bank in Oakland, California on March 28. The food bank feeds a football stadium full of people (45,000 to 48,000) on a weekly basis. Mike Overton came off the graveyard shift to volunteer and Alfredo Costa and Jaime Miramontes (joined by his son James) volunteered on their day off to join the effort and represent AB&I at this worthy endeavor. Carlos Gonzalez, Jennifer Costa, Jenny Landon and Gilberto Bolaños also joined the group of AB&I volunteers.
During the day, team members were delighted to speak with Shirley, a weekly volunteer at the food bank. Shirley was curious about the volunteers and the company they represented and questioned how long they had worked at AB&I and what departments they represented. She went on to tell them that each person serves a unique purpose, for example the eyes can’t smell and the foot can’t work like a hand. The point she was making was that no one job is more important than the other; each job compliments the other.
Team AB&I had volunteered at the Alameda Food Bank before and this time they bagged 8 full containers of apples and mandarins to the beat of the music (Hammer Time, Santana and others).
Thank you to this year’s volunteers for donating your time and effort to the Alameda Food Bank!
